Team News 10/24

Good afternoon;

Some quick updates for you:

Saturday (Tomorrow):

At 10:00, coach Chris is hosting a viewing of South African rugby at his house - this will include game analysis to develop 'rugby brain' and should prove useful.

Parents are welcome as well as players - please bring a favorite snack and soft drink to share.

Sunday Game:

We are scheduled for the 1:00 game at the Fullers Field location in Marietta - the location on Robinson Road. So please be there at 12:30 if you are travelling direct - the team car pool will leave at 11:30 from Mill Creek School's tennis courts, so please be there at 11:15.

Also, if you are not available to play, please let the coaching team know before Sunday so that we can make line-up adjustments.

T-Shirts are in:

Hopefully, you have seen these around school. Everyone who has paid fall season dues or provided a sponsor check has a shirt. Players without a shirt will get theirs when they are current with dues. Remember, your $50 dues covers not just the shirt, but also:

1.) US Rugby team registration
2.) US rugby individual registration
3.) Website hosting fees for www.millcreekrugby.com
4.) GHSRA dues
5.) Fall league dues
6.) Field rental costs
7.) Referee payments

I will not be there on Sunday as I am in San Francisco, but I know that the improvement that we have seen over the past weeks will continue.

Brookwood Game Report

With a final score 20 – 0, an improving Mill Creek team fell to Brookwood in GHSRA action in Lilbun on October 19th.

In the first 15 minutes, Mill Creek, put Brookwood under sustained pressure with scrum half Sawyer Dalton going agonizingly close. Touching the corner flag on the way over for the try negated the score, and Mil Creek then ran out of steam, allowing Brookwood to score the first try of the game.

“The first 15 minutes were the best we have ever played” said Mill Creek coach Kevin Mead. “We are just 4 games into this team’s career, and each game decreases the mistakes and increases the skill level.”

“A number of players had their best ever game,” said Mead. “Sergio Gaeta and Eric Rau were just outstanding, and coming off of the bench Chris Tinkey, Patrick Friend and Harnish Patel were just incredible at holding Brookwood back for a considerable time.”

Fitness and concentration were again issues for Mill Creek, and Brookwood were able to score 3 more times before the close of the game.

Mill Creek’s Man of the Match was Sergio Gaeta for his ability to make decisive runs and early tackles in the forwards. The BA Award went to Eric Rau for demanding to be put in when bleeding from the nose, and then making fierce tackles. The Paddy went to Zach Chickachop for the first (and only) crossing penalty of the day.

We made the newspaper!

We made the newspaper!

http://www.mainstreetnewssports.com/archives/530-Mill-Creek-Rugby-loses-to-Starrs-Mill.html

If you search there for 'rugby' it is the third article we have had. Patrick is also developing media relations with other local newspapers in his capacity as Media relations Officer. It helps when his sister is the photographer!

Some updates:

Player health: I would like an update on Trevor and his neck if someone has details please.

Shirts: I am missing 6 and 7. Prime suspects are Nick, Ben, Trevor and Jansen. Please sort through your stuff and look - they were not left at the field. reemember these are borrowed shirts and we ned to give them back at some stage - All of them!

Practice:

Tuesday and Wednesday of this week - 6:00 at Rabbitt Hill. Since you all know the physical that is required to play this game, we are now goiung to move into strategy and tactics.

Game Next week:

We are more local. We will be playing at Brrokwoods field at 327 Arcado RD Lilburn, GA 30047. At the moment, I do not have date and time (or opposition!) things are moving ihn the schedule as i try and get you matched to teams more our equal,

Sunday's game further thoughts:

It was good to hear that you are not too down on yourselves. 5 games were played on Sunday, and two teams did not score at all! Oconee played it's first season without ever scorong. It stinks to loose, all of us on the coaching team are very aware of that. Two coaches have e-mailed me about how much better we were this week than last - bear in mind we had a number of new bodies helping us out.

We rain straighter, we tackled better, we kicked better. We will work on lineout and scrums and getting a defensive scheme that can adjust. This is starting to look pretty decent for a team that is just 2 hours old!

See you at practice this week.

Tough Game - Good Opposition

Well, I made the final score 31 - 3 to Starr's Mill. And they played well, they had two guys that we had real difficulty stopping once they got into their pace. So, to have got them we needed to:

. Blitz the defense to get them before they got up to speed
. Go low on the tackles and look for loose ball if they drop it
. Get fitter and quicker

Both sides were being allowed to play the ball from teh ground once tackled today, but they took more advantage of it than we did.

Awards:

Man of the Match: Ben McDaniel - I have looked at the game pictures, and he is all over the field making tackles and advancing the ball.

BA: James Dunn - He bled for you today, and scored a monster penalty

Paddy: Trevor Kauffman - Not for on-field antics, for locking his keys in the car.

So rest up, we were much better than two weeks ago. with players returning from injury/illness, and new guys now learning, we will be better again next week
